Moscow Based Australian Blogger Falsely Claims Leipzig Drone Attack is Western Conspiracy

The publisher of a Moscow based, Kremlin aligned blog, Dances with Bears, John Helmer, republished an anonymous, unverified “airport employee” narrative (via Anatoliy Shariy) implying the Leipzig/Halle explosive-drone incident was staged or misrepresented. That insinuation conflicts with multiple official German statements and prosecutorial documents describing an explosive device and detonator attached to a drone, plus bomb-robot handling and federal-level criminal investigation. The post’s “just asking questions” posture functions as classic false-flag laundering: replacing evidence with insinuation.

Helmer’s central insinuation (“no explosives / staged presentation”) is not supported with verifiable evidence and directly contradicts multiple official statements and prosecutorial reporting. What remains legitimately investigatory is the full evidentiary chain and attribution details—yet the article jumps from “anonymous account” to suspicion-by-insinuation.

THE CLAIM:

Helmer asserts that photos showing an explosive device allegedly linked to “Russian agents” don’t match what airport employees saw, and that the drone was just a small consumer device—implying German authorities/media may be exaggerating or staging the incident.

THE FACTS:

  1. German prosecutors and state authorities describe a drone with an explosive device and a detonator.
Saxony’s official media service states a drone with an “unknown explosive device” was found, examined with support of federal police and a bomb-disposal robot, and the detonator was removed.
  2. Germany’s federal prosecutor (GBA) publicly states “professional explosive” and “detonator” were attached to the drone.
This is a formal prosecutorial position, not a tabloid claim.
  3. German public broadcasters reported forensic testing consistent with military-grade explosives (PETN and Semtex), citing confidential documents.
Tagesschau/NDR/WDR/SZ reporting says multiple tests were conducted; later testing indicated PETN and Semtex, and documents describe a package on the drone plus a “detonator.”
  4. Germany’s Foreign Minister publicly attributes the Leipzig incident to Russia as a “hybrid attack,” announcing retaliatory measures.
This is the official German government position as of September 1, 2026.

NARRATIVE CONTEXT & STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE:

This functions as attribution erosion: introduce an anonymous “witness” to cast doubt on official findings, then gesture toward “provocation” without providing testable evidence. The strategic benefit is clear: reduce public confidence in German security services, complicate consensus on Russia’s hybrid threat activity, and soften support for countermeasures and for Ukraine by making the incident seem like manufactured hysteria.
