Russian State Media Promotes Conspiracy Linking Truss Text Message to Nord Stream Explosion

A tweet from exiled Finnish conspiracy theorist Kim Dot Com, suggesting that former British PM Liz Truss sent a text message “it’s done” to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken after explosions disabled the Nord Stream pipelines, claiming that this is how the Russian government found out about the explosion.

However, the Truss hack was discovered during the UK Conservative leadership campaign that happened during the summer.  Truss officially became PM on September 6. The Nord Stream explosions happened weeks later. Given this actual timeline, Kim Dot Com’s claim is impossible.

The absence of facts has been ignored by the Russian government and state media, which has used the Finnish conspiracy theorist’s tweet as the basis for further amplifying the false claim. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has demanded an explanation from the British government. On Saturday, the Russian Defense Ministry also claimed, without any evidence, that “Britain had a hand in blowing up the pipelines”.

The Russian state media story is intended to reinforce unfounded Russian government accusations about UK involvement in the Nord Stream explosions.
