An online influencer has falsely claimed that Ukraine’s president has inappropriately used western support funding to purchase two luxury yachts worth $74 million.
Narrative Context:
The Kremlin has consistently promoted exaggerated false narratives about corruption in Ukraine and the Zelensky administration in order to erode western government and public support for Ukraine. Concerns about potential corruption in Ukraine are legitimate and have in fact been expressed by officials in allied countries, including EU officials. However, the claim made by this influencer has been proven to be false.
Facts:
The yachts identified by the influencer, “Lucky Me” and “My Legacy”, are sill up for sale as of December 15, 2023. This Tweet/Xpost has been debunked by a number of fact checking units including the Associated Press.
