Turkish President Has Not Threatened To Intervene Against Israel

On October 19, 2023, a social media post falsely claimed that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had threatened to intervene in the ongoing crisis in Israel. This post, viewed by over 6.1 million Twitter/X users, used an image from 2020, which was not related to the current crisis.

The tweet misinterprets Erdogan’s Tweet/X post below, which is distorted to mean that Turkey will intervene in the Israeli-Hamas conflict.

In an October 17, 2023 Twitter/X post, Erdogan wrote that:

“Hitting a hospital containing women, children and innocent civilians is the latest example of Israel’s attacks devoid of the most basic human values.

I invite all humanity to take action to stop this unprecedented brutality in Gaza.”
