A radical far-right British influencer and self-described “truth warrior” has posted a misleading video on Twitter/X alleging electoral misconduct in Canada’s 2025 federal election. The video falsely claims that Canadian election workers were illegally taking ballot boxes home, implying that the integrity of the election was compromised.
These allegations are entirely unfounded. Under Elections Canada procedures, poll officers are legally responsible for transporting ballot boxes and materials to and from polling stations for the specific polls to which they are assigned. This process is a routine and regulated aspect of Canadian election administration and does not constitute any evidence of wrongdoing or fraud.
The video in question presents no credible evidence to support its claims. It misrepresents ordinary electoral procedures in an apparent attempt to sow distrust in Canada’s democratic institutions. The source, a known conspiracy theorist based in the UK, has a history of promoting disinformation related to elections and public health.
Elections Canada has posted a response to this false claim stating that: “There is a video being shared online, along with some inaccurate information. The ballot boxes in the video are not full of marked ballots; they contain the materials needed to set up the polls for election day. “
Disinformation of this nature—particularly when amplified by foreign influencers and conspiracy theorists —poses a serious risk to public confidence in Canada’s democratic process and underscores the importance of rapid fact-checking and responsible media consumption during election periods.
