COVID Related Restrictions in Canada Did Not End on March 1

The AFP Fact Check team discovered false information spreading on social media about an end to Canadian COVID lockdown restrictions in late February 2021. The claim thatall public health measures to curb the spread of Covid-19 in Canada, including lockdowns, mask mandates and social distancing, will end on March 1, 2021” is false.

According to AFP this disinformation was shared in multiple Facebook posts and in French on Instagram.

The post could cause those exposed to it to contradict ongoing health restrictions, thereby putting themselves, friends, family and anyone they come into contact with, at risk.

COVID related restrictions do vary by province and by regions with provinces. Canadians should check with their local and provincial governments for the latest reliable information about local restrictions.
