Several stories are being shared on social media that suggest that the outcome of the U.S. presidential election may been affected in jurisdictions that use Dominion Voting ballot counting machines by falsely linking Dominion with the Russian government SolarWinds Orion hack.
The articles falsely claim that “Dominion Voting Systems Used SolarWinds” and that due to the hack, “all assumptions about security and the efficacy of the elections themselves should be thrown out.”
Dominion issued a statement on December 14, clarifying that “Dominion Voting Systems does not now – nor has it ever – used the SolarWinds Orion Platform, which was subject of the DHS emergency directive dated December 13, 2020 (Emergency Directive 21-01).”
The Russian government hack of the SolarWinds Orion system did not affect Dominion Voting systems or its operations and any conclusions that that question the outcome of the U.S. presidential election based on this factually incorrect information should be considered false.
Narratives that question the legitimacy of Western nations serve to undermine and potentially destabilize targeted western democratic institutions and societies. This is one of the primary objectives of malign foreign actors who engage in information warfare.
